Emily Grogan

MA, LMHC

Welcome. I’m Emily Grogan, and I’m a licensed mental health counselor with a deep passion for supporting individuals and couples through life’s complexities. If you’re here, chances are you’re feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of how to navigate the challenges in your relationships or personal life. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, or facing conflicts in your relationship, I want you to know that you don’t have to face these difficulties alone.

My goal is to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where you can feel comfortable being exactly who you are. Therapy is a vulnerable process, and it’s important that you feel seen, heard, and understood. Together, we’ll explore the layers of your emotions and experiences to uncover the patterns that are keeping you stuck. You are the expert on your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you, offering guidance, tools, and insights to help you heal and grow.

Relational and Attachment Focus

At the heart of my practice is the belief that relationships shape who we are. From early attachment experiences to our current relationships, the way we connect with others impacts our emotional well-being. I work from an attachment-focused perspective, which means that together we’ll explore how your past and present relationships are influencing your thoughts, behaviors, and emotional responses. Whether you’re working on your relationship with yourself or with a partner, understanding these dynamics can bring clarity and open the door to healthier, more fulfilling connections.

I am also a strong believer in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a proven approach that helps couples and individuals understand and transform their emotional experiences. Through EFT, we’ll work to deepen your understanding of yourself and your partner, fostering secure emotional bonds and creating lasting change.

Therapeutic Approach

In our work together, I use a combination of evidence-based practices that are tailored to your unique needs. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is highly effective for healing trauma and difficult life experiences. If you’ve been through something painful or traumatic that still impacts you, we can work to process those experiences and reduce their emotional hold on you.

For couples, I integrate the Gottman Method, which focuses on improving communication and building stronger, more resilient relationships. Relationships can be the source of both immense joy and profound pain. I believe that with the right tools and understanding, couples can move from conflict and disconnection to mutual support and emotional intimacy.

I also draw on relational and person-centered approaches, working collaboratively with you to identify your goals and the best path forward. Every person and couple is unique, and I honor the individuality of each client I work with. Together, we’ll build a therapeutic relationship rooted in trust, empathy, and mutual respect.

Who I Work With

I am an ally to the LGBTQ+ community and work to cultivate an environment where all identities are respected and celebrated. I recognize the importance of being aware of power, privilege, and systemic influences that impact your mental health and relationships. In our work together, I bring cultural humility and a commitment to learning from you, ensuring that our time together is a safe, inclusive space where your experiences are honored.

I provide therapy for both individuals and couples who are seeking relief from a range of challenges. Some of the areas I specialize in include:

  • Anxiety and Depression: If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from yourself or others, we’ll explore the root causes of your distress and develop strategies for managing your symptoms.

  • Relationship Conflict: Whether you’re navigating infidelity, communication breakdowns, or emotional disconnection, I can help you and your partner rebuild trust and strengthen your bond.

  • Life Transitions: Major life changes, whether positive or negative, can leave you feeling unmoored. Together, we’ll find ways to navigate these transitions with resilience and purpose.

  • Trauma and Grief: If you’ve experienced trauma or are dealing with a significant loss, we can work together to process these experiences, helping you heal and find peace.

  • Burnout and Stress Management: Life’s demands can sometimes leave you feeling exhausted and burnt out. Therapy can provide the tools and space to reconnect with yourself and regain balance.

  • Premarital and Couples Counseling: If you and your partner are preparing for marriage or working through relationship challenges, we’ll create a safe space to explore your concerns, improve communication, and strengthen your connection.

What to Expect from Therapy

Therapy is a collaborative process. It’s not about me telling you what to do, but about us working together to understand what’s going on beneath the surface. When you come into a session, you can expect to feel heard and respected. We’ll spend time discussing what’s most important to you, and I’ll offer reflections, ask questions, and introduce tools that can help you move toward your goals. Therapy can be both challenging and rewarding, but I believe in your capacity for growth and change.

I encourage you to bring your full self into our work. Therapy is most effective when we can engage in open, honest conversations about your feelings, your needs, and your experiences. My hope is that therapy will provide you with a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships, and equip you with the skills to lead a more connected, fulfilling life.

Why I Do This Work
